Who’s your book Valentine’s date?

So I’m a little late on this post, What’s your Valentine book boyfriend would you chose to be your Valentine date? Note: You can have more than one . . .indulge in your valentine fantasy

Barrow Hess from Andrea Cremer’s Prequel Nightshade

Adam from Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me

Noah Hutchins From Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits

Tod Hudson From Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers

Now if some of these guys were real in life, yes I would totally spend my valentine day with any of them . . . but that is only a dream. Most of these handsome guys are taken *weep*

Barrow wouldd probably plan a secret hideaway valentine date, maybe to that water spring that he took Ember to in Rise and it would be a picnic. That scenery would take my breath away just like it did with Ember. Or if this was Barrow and Ember’s date, he would probably take her to a very speical location where no one else knows and do the most romantic things I won’t say what though.

Adam might scrap everything he could find to give me the perfect valentine date but his heart intention would be just enough for me, as long he is able to make me smile and safe that is how I would spend my time  . . . with him. Adam might have a different plan for juliette but his heart is in the right place no warner interferences.

Noah would probably surprise me if I had to tell him what I wanted for valentine day. He’s unpreicdeablt  and if he wanted to do something completley ordinary it just might be a candlelit dinner. Noah might do the same thing with Echo but with a little twist . . . he’s 100% perfect for Echo as her other half and he’ll do anything to drive her crazy to be in love with him.

Tod “Sighs” it better not be pizza TOD! I know you can do better than that even if you do get a discount off pizza. If you took me to a fancy resturant I would say you’re trying way too hard. Be yourself and just offer your heart and soul to me.  Now Kaylee I know he’s your guy but Hey a girl can dream right? He would probably take you to his place for a quiet romantic dinner and something else . . .

Fine Tasting Wine

Well if you don’t where I live, Its in the Midwest area and BRR its cold out there!

I am lucky not to have to go to school today but I am also sad that many of my friends have classes today . . .keep warm guys!

So the purpose of this post was about wine . . . yes wine. We all love wine 🙂

Well turns out freezing temps and cold weather don’t mix with Wine bottles, so today there was an incident with one of my wine bottle. . . .

It burst and broke the glass . . . yep there was glass involved (Please be careful when dealing with glass, don’t assume its all in large parts there are small pieces)

I’ve never thought about ICED wine but that might be a consideration in the future. Sadly I don’t know what kind of wine it was but seeing all this pink explosion its a shame that it went like this.

Do you see that green bottle behind the pink explosion? Yeah that my favorite wine. . .  Moscato, that one was save so I might have that later this week.

I’m off to write, study and bowling later tonight!  Have a good day!

Rise Review

Here’s the deal, I finished Rise in one day (and a half based on hours) and oh my god, it was freaking to die for!

Rise (Nightshade Prequel, #2) The description

The sequel to Rift and the prequel to the New York Times bestselling novel Nightshade.

Everything Conatus stands for is at risk. Hoping to gather enough resistance to save their order, Ember and Barrow attempt a desperate escape. But fate offers little mercy. When their mission is exposed, the  couple face relentless pursuit by the supernatural horrors that act on the commands of Eira’s ally: the mysterious Bosque Mar. A shocking revelation forces Ember out of hiding, sending her back into the heart of dark magic at Tearmunn keep, where she must convince her old friend Alistair of her love or face dire consequences. Ember’s deception offers the only chance for the resistance to succeed, but what she discovers in the shadows beneath the keep will shatter her world and bring about the Witches’ War.

Richly sensual and full of magic, action and danger, Andrea Cremer’s fifth book set in the Nightshade world is an edge-of-your-seat page turner.

Oh boy, Oh boy, Oh boy I can’t believe how quick I went through this book and I am SO pleased with this sequel of the Nightshade Prequel. Now I have read many sequel books by other authors and often time they leave you confusing, open-ending questions, why did they go out of the box or whatever readers want to whine about. This book RISE was NOT a disappointment, NOT AT ALL.

WARNING: This Post will contain SPOILERS so you have been warned!!!!

The Review:

Andrea Cremer has done it again! Complete success on book number two. This was my favorite Nightshade book to read.

I cannot believe what happen in the book, there was many betrayals, greed and power, romance, and of course twists. ALTHOUGH this book did bring up to how Calla’s story connect of the history mention in the Present day Nightshade. And I was shock who it was and how it all became, now I’m curious even more on the “HOW” part. Many fought for survival and against evil or even against their own people who became foes. Ember kick a** in this book and I think she doesn’t give herself enough credits. Eira is deeply under the influence of dark magic that Bosque has presented, its sister against sister at this point. Alastair filled with obsession of his love for Ember for which she does not give in return. Barrow (Sighs) I envy him so much and he is truly a kind man with a soft spot for Ember. I don’t know what else to say about this book as my non-spoliery review.  There will be Battle Scars and the War has just begun.

My Thoughts:

Ok breathe Kat, breathe . . . there is so much thought in my head about this book and it all good and bad stuff so let’s start with where Rift left off.

Ember and Barrow on the run, Alastair stirs with the thoughts of Ember, Eira makes the rules . . .

Barrow confess his feeling for Ember as she does, but trying to be lovey-dovey on the run isn’t the best time then in that moment questions were brought up and then a mere resting time until Dark clouds started coming their way. Alastair find Ember’s room empty and her horse Caber missing, he feared that she took off out of sorrow after a death of a friend but Eira was determined to have Ember on their side so Bosque offers Alastair a way to track Ember and bring her back. UGH note of reference I am really not liking Alastair anymore (he is a heartless man). Now he’s on the hunt for Ember and just when he found her and Barrow (whose could have been seriously hurt in retrospect) . Ember asks for time, thankfully she could convince him but with a loss of a warrior. Eira and Bosque continue to get people to join them but Eira rules the courts and its no secret she is one scary woman.

Ember tries to put on a brave face but inside, she is scared . . . scared for everyone that closes to her and most loyal to her.  Now I love the pairing of Ember and Barrow, I knew from the start that they were meant to be. While there are boundaries about being with someone, Barrow and Ember pushed it to certain limits. Some examples would be like on the ship heading to france (It was a steaming scene) to confessing love to one another. I’d seriously melt every time one of these two are hopelessly romantic, Ember never had feelings like this and Barrow fought so many times that he really can’t imagine fighting this upcoming war without her.  Here’s a  favorite quotes

“Barrow drew a ragged breath, lowering his eyes, and a few teardrops escaped onto his cheeks.

“I love you,” Ember whispered. No words she’f spoken had ever felt so important or so frightening.

“I have loved no one but you.” Barrow looked at Ember, and she saw that his deep gray eyes were the color of the sea upon which they now sailed.

“Kiss me, Ember.”

Now let’s talk about Alastair, I shuddered every time he would so “greatly” express his concerns for Ember and none other but now he has leverage to get Ember running into his arms. Ember’s sister suffers a unfortutane event, Alastair’s brute brother has knocked Ember’s sister up and disgrace her from her family. Now on the run seeking refuge, Ember’s sister arrive at Tearmunn and Alastair jumps in to allow refuge with Lady Eira’s permission. Although she isn’t sure of the sister’s motives or Alastair’s purpose but Lord Bosque isn’t concern and takes a deep interest in Lady Morrow (Ember’s Sister).

Ok before I spill out this Super Spoiler if you haven’t read Nightshade (Calla’s story) or read Rift I greatly warn you . . .

Alastair came up with an idea, and Lord Bosque seems intrigue to see if Alastair’s idea will follow through, now what is this idea? Bonding man and wolf together . . . dun dun dun. YES it was all Alastair’s doing of how the present time Nightshade was form. Alastair is dealing with dark magic that both Lady Eira and Lord Bosque possess and let’s just say Alastair is more devoted to his new-found idea and nothing else. Ember did return and Alastair gave her many cold shoulders and odd conversation but that is all his test to determine Ember’s true intention of returning back.  So the whole man and wolf concept came from Alastair, he created this bond and curse in a way.

Anybody hear wedding belles? Yes there was a wedding and I was freaking out every moment of the way hoping that someone would object but there was a battle instead. Who got married if you asked? I first wonder about this marriage when I re-read BloodRoss bonus chapter, you should read it if you haven’t and that made me worry because I hated the one character and the other character was in love with another warrior.

Here’s a quote that I had a hard time finding that is from Alastair.

Alastair cuffed Ember, making her head ring from the blow.

“Forget them! You are still mine, as you always will be,” he growled at her.

“And in my possession, you will learn the price of betrayal.”

The Battle has begun, sister against sister battle the side of good and evil. Alastair showed his true colors, Man and Wolf are united. When will the next book come and what will it contains, who will win the battle?

RISE Publication Day

Well this was an exciting weekend for me just before I start a new semester and turning over a new leaf.

IMG_4365IMG_4366So I meet Andrea Cremer again, she was promoting her second book of Nightshade Prequel RISE.

Along my journey of attending events, I discovered new book stores in the cities of Minnesota, so if and when I move to the next state over, I’ll know where to go on occasion.

So there were a small giveaway and that prize was the Nightshade poster that we all seen on FB from Andrea Cremer’s page and the publishing company Penguin Teen, I was able to win one for myself and for my best friend who I know will LOVE IT!  I wish she could have come with me but she had family stuff to do, but maybe the next time she’ll come with me 🙂

One of the fans who is an 8th grader, she loves books so she was able to ask a few questions and try to dig inside Andrea Cremer’s head

IMG_13One of the questions I remember was How did she become to be a writer? It all started when she broke her foot from a horseback riding incident, and figure to give the writing thing a try and BOOM! Nightshade was created.

Andrea did quip that she has other books coming out, one is a co-author David Levithan with a book call Invisibility, there will be a book that will take place after Bloodrose and I believe she said it was adult fiction. then another book (but I didn’t catch what it was). So 2013 alone she has 4 books coming out.  Stay Tune!

Here’s another surprise that I found out at the event, another Author was present . . . yes another AUTHOR, her name is Heather Anastasiu the Author of GLITCH, in February the second book “OVERRIDE” will be release and she’ll be at the same bookstore where I just was at. And then “ShutDown” will be release in July.  So I meet a new Author.

Ok whose ready for pictures?

Quarantine: The Loners

My Review of Quarantine: The Loners

Quarantine: The Loners (Quarantine, #1)Goodreads Description

As original as The Hunger Games, set within the walls of a high school exactly like yours.” – Kami Garcia, New York Times best-selling co-author of the Beautiful Creatures novels

It was just another ordinary day at McKinley High—until a massive explosion devastated the school. When loner David Thorpe tried to help his English teacher to safety, the teacher convulsed and died right in front of him. And that was just the beginning.

A year later, McKinley has descended into chaos. All the students are infected with a virus that makes them deadly to adults. The school is under military quarantine. The teachers are gone. Violent gangs have formed based on high school social cliques. Without a gang, you’re as good as dead. And David has no gang. It’s just him and his little brother, Will, against the whole school.

In this frighteningly dark and captivating novel, a 2012 Booklist Editor’s Choice, Lex Thomas locks readers inside a school where kids don’t fight to be popular, they fight to stay alive.

“Take Michael Grant’s Gone and Veronica Roth’s Divergent, rattle them in a cage until they’re ready to fight to the death, and you’ll have something like this nightmarish debut…Thomas’ whirlwind pace, painful details, simmering sexual content, and moments of truly shocking ultra-violence thrust this movie-ready high school thriller to the head of the class.” – Booklist (starred review)

I gave this book 3 stars

The Review:

Can you imagine entering your own high school and then is bombard when every adult start dying around you and you don’t know why? Then you find out you can’t leave the school (every kid worst nightmare) because of a virus that yourself carries and is LETHAL to every adult.  Now you’re waiting on “Graduating” meaning a release date when you becomes virus-free. and re-entering the world.

So what do you do in the meantime awaiting your graduation date? You try to avoid the groups unless you’re in one, you watch out for the person that is the closest to you . . . your brother. A war starts between the Varsity and the Rebels, when David Thorpe is saved from certain death by the leader of the Varsity Sam Howard. Now these two have history together, they were once friends, teammates but everything changes when David lost his mother and separated from the social life AND when David realizes that his own girlfriend was cheating on him and a huge outburst fight between David and Sam before the quarantine happen at the high school.

Will Thorpe is David’s little brother and is a loner, keeps to himself kind of guy. Now Will and David are struggling to survive just as well other teenagers but you have a greater chance of survival if you are in a group and is labeled. Will does his own thing until he save his brother from being nearly killed and also help save a girl named Lucy from certain traumatic.  Now Will had always has eyes on Lucy but never did anything to talk to her until she has eyes for David and now he has conflicted feeling and anger.

There is a fight for survival, a fight among the Varsity and the Rebels . . . there is going to be War, not over resources but over hierarchy status.

My Thoughts:

From the beginning it sounded good and different but to me it was very slow-pace and perhaps another re-read is needed for this book to get a better understanding of this terrify disaster for these teens. School is rough especially when you’re a loner and aren’t friends with the right people and right group that will give you benefits.  David has a lot riding on him to lead this group of followers against the Varsity but does he have the heart for it?

I like Will very much and feel sad that he is always in his brother’s shadow and it worst when a girl he likes doesn’t see him. I could see him as a better leader rather than anybody because he doesn’t take no for an answer and he doesn’t go down without a fight.

But Lucy is also conflicted, she has mixed feeling for both of the Thorpe boys and she couldn’t be more graceful for them for taking her in to their hiding place and shelter.

Shatter Me Review

Yeah Yeah I know I’m a little late on reading this book when everyone is waiting for Unravel Me that coming this

Here’s the detail of the book

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal, but

The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to

use her as a weapon. But Juliette has plans of

her own. After a lifetime without freedom, she’s

finally discovering a strength to fight back for

the very first time—and to find a future with the

one boy she thought she’d lost forever.

My Review

For awhile, I pushed off this book when it was first release because I had other books that I really wanted to read. So now that I got this book for Christmas I decided one night to read and guess what? I couldn’t put the book down! So let’s start with the review . . .

Juliette is fatal to anyone that touches her, well just about anyone. After so many days being along, she obtain a cellmate named Adam. Although he seems like a jerk he is actually very kind until Juliette is taken out of the cell and into the compound. That is where she met Warner, he has big plans for her. Putting Juliette through courses of what Warner expects of her, her guard/watcher Adam (Yes Adam again)they both learn that Adam can touch her without being fatally hurt.

Now for the boys: Adam and Warner
I fell in love with Adam from the very beginning, even though I was unsure of his purpose but now I know . . . He’s Juliette’s Savior. The bird that Juliette dream that would come and set her free.
Warner, he is beyond the most horrible human I have ever met. His desires are greed and power. He wanted to use Juliette for his own benefits and then among the mist of Juliette escaping he realizes that he can also touch her without any effects. This drove him to a love obsession with her and kiss her when he divided her and Adam. But thankfully Juliette was smart and use his gun to shoot him and took off to find Adam.

Adam shares his devotion and his mission in protecting the ones that are important to him. When you are unsure if someone if a friend or a foe . . . but that one person save your lives by taking you to a top-secret location where Juliette will learn more about who she is.  They will meet others with unique abilities.

What will be next for Juliette, Adam and Warner?

Ending of my break

This week is my last week of break before school starts, I really don’t want this break to be over because of many reasons

One it was short, because I was attending the university we went up until a few days before Christmas and since I am returning back to the Tech college for my new major we always start a week early. So as you can see I only had 3 weeks of break when I usually have 4.

But here’s the headlines of what I did do for my SHORT break

  1. Had a major Christmas family gathering from both sides (One hosted by my family and I)
  2. My 22nd birthday, I finally got Scrivener the writing tool to help with my writing
  3. I got a bookshelf as you saw in my last post “2013 Resolutions”
  4. Girls Lunch in honor of celebrating my 22nd bday and then we played games
  5. Started my 2013 reading list

Later this week I am SO EXCITED BOUNCING UP AND DOWN because (Drums roll please) Andrea Cremer is back in MN to promote RISE (Nightshade Prequel #2) and as much I was tempting to make the book purchase through B&N. I thought Well why not buy it at the release party and whose know I might win one for free.

My plan of action for this awesome event was to bring one of my BFF but she has other plans sadly but I will try and win her some Andrea Cremer’s books since there are giveaways and trivia Q’s. Plus Cake . . . and Wine.

Then after that my mom and I are going to see an ICE Castle (Yes I am talking about an ICE Castle) right next to Mall of America. We will do the tour at night so we can see the illuming lights.   Here’s are some photos of the ICE Castle provided by Mall Of America event pages and photographer Mike Voss. Pretty right?

232-1351192615 234-1351192615

So I will for sure let you know how the event goes and my mom and I chilling adventure.

One plan for the summer is maybe expanding my closet because my dad thinks we can and I hope we can.

  • I write books (Unpublished and undiscloses except for the main character names) I am now using Scrivener so this will get me one step closer in completeling this book that came to me at the end of summer (worst timing).  This book I’m writing is fun and challengeing but that all I can really say. I think I’ll be one of those Author where I say when the book comes up when it ready but we’ll see.

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits, #2)Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #2)

“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all….

NobodyNobody

There are people in this world who are Nobody. No one sees them. No one notices them. They live their lives under the radar, forgotten as soon as you turn away.

That’s why they make the perfect assassins.

The Institute finds these people when they’re young and takes them away for training. But an untrained Nobody is a threat to their organization. And threats must be eliminated.

Sixteen-year-old Claire has been invisible her whole life, missed by the Institute’s monitoring. But now they’ve ID’ed her and send seventeen-year-old Nix to remove her. Yet the moment he lays eyes on her, he can’t make the hit. It’s as if Claire and Nix are the only people in the world for each other. And they are—because no one else ever notices them.

Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers, #2)Wicked Kiss (Nightwatcher #2)

MY KISS CAN KILL.
I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that’s changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone’s soul…or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don’t…I hurt myself.
Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I’ll kill him. Then there’s another boy, one I can’t hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They’re both part of a team of angels and demons that’s joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I’ll be able to help Bishop-or if I’m just another part of the darkness he’s sworn to destroy….
NIGHTWATCHERS
When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising…
